COMMUNITY LIBRARY - A STEP CLOSER (OR RATHER A RAMP CLOSER)!!

As you are probably aware, Clayton le Moors Community has come forward wanting to replace some of the library services we lost when Lancashire County Council closed the Library at the Civic Hall last September.
The back room at the Arthur Wilson Centre will be the location of this new library service - of course it won't be as big as the previous library but we will have a selection of books to borrow, internet provision, a Click and Collect Ordering service with Lancashire County Council, photocopying and friendly volunteers to help run things.

But before all this happens, we need to make some changes to the back room at the centre and improve the access into the centre from the back car park. The photo shows the wonderful Pilkington Bros workman laying the new ramp - handrails will be next!

We are looking for NEW VOLUNTEERS to help us with this new venture - even if you can only spare a couple of hours a week it will be a great help - and you will no doubt meet new people and gain new skills too! Get in touch with us at the Annex on Barnes Square or ring 01254 659427 - we look forward to hearing from you !

AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY!!

Mercer House 1842 and Hyndburn Homes recently held a drop in event at the Willow Close Community Centre where there was plenty of information on offer and the chance to pot a plant and decorate heart biscuits. Despite the cold, wet weather there was lots of colour and smiles inside as you can see from the photo! Don't worry if you missed the event, you can always call at the ANNEX on Barnes Square to find out WHAT'S ON in the community, access services like HYNDBURN HOMES and the POLICE, find help with any computer issues with our DIGITAL CHAMPIONS and pick up your RECYCLING PROVISIONS.

The ANNEX is OPEN every MONDAY to FRIDAY from 10am-12noon and from 2pm-4pm. It's managed by our wonderful VOLUNTEERS - so if you want to find out the volunteering opportunities to get involved with, call in and have a chat! We hope to see you soon ☺☺☺👍

LET THERE BE LIGHTS!!!!

What a great turnout at the Clayton le Moors Christmas Lights Switch On 2016! With Carol's sung by local school children, Blessings given by Pastor Anne and a few words of thanks by Nick Collingridge of Mercer House 1842 (who has led the fundraising for this years trees and lights), it was then left to Billy Kee and Jordan Clarke of Accrington Stanley FC to switch the switch and light up the town square!
And the crowd couldn't let another celebration pass by as Nick led everyone in a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to Billy who was going to be 26 in the morning!
Winstanley the Accrington Stanley FC mascot also made an appearance and with the weather staying dry and not too cold, a good time was had by all!

LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY...!

Preparations are well underway for the Clayton le Moors Christmas Lights Switch On. The guys have been busy this week putting up all the trees around the shops and premises around Barnes Square and this year they have had even MORE trees to erect - thanks to the fundraising efforts of people in the town.
As you will be aware with Council cut backs, it means that if we want to see more festive decorations other than the lights on the big tree, we need to collectively raise the funds to get them - AND THIS YEAR WE DID IT!!
So the Trees are in situ, the lights are all ready to be switched on and the Nativity Crib is back in it's place....The OFFICIAL SWITCH on will be on Wednesday 30th November at 6 - 6.30pm. Carol's will be sung, the Crib will be blessed and special guests from Accrington Stanley FC will be here to do the big flicking of the switch.
Please come along and share in this special occassion - last year had a tremendous turn out, hope to see you all there!!

Want to grow your own herbs or veg but don't have the space?

Want to see MORE food growing places in Clayton le Moors?

Want to know how you can adopt one of our Planters and start growing your own?

We can't guarantee you will see a lovely bloom develop like our Volunteer (above), but you might end up with fresh vegetables for tea!

We have been given a limited number of planters from Hyndburn Council which are now  in place at the Orchard corner on Winckley Road - we will be filling them with compost over the next few days and we want YOU to ADOPT A PLANTER for your very own use.
